The Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo) at Cloughwood Academy is Jane Thomas.

At Cloughwood Academy, we cater for pupils who have a range of complex needs. These include: Communication and Interaction, Cognition and Learning, Social Emotional and Mental Health as well as Sensory and Physical Needs. Often, our pupils will have needs in more than one area.

Pupils arrive at our school with an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) in place and cannot be admitted to our school without one. Once they arrive, all pupils have an individual document called the Cloughwood Profile which staff, pupils and parents use to log the journey that your child makes as they progress through the school. The Cloughwood Profile is updated three times per year and takes account of the pupils, parents and staff views. The information that we collate supports the annual review process and will feed into future EHCP’s. The profile not only looks at the academic progress that your child makes, but also how they are preparing for adult life.

At Cloughwood Academy pupils follow the National Curriculum through the academic and vocational subjects they study, however, we also assess using Boxall which enables us to assess and track social and emotional progress and Adaptive Behaviour Assessment System (ABAS) which enables us to assess and track progress towards independence.
